Okay, so let’s go back to non-comedogenic oils. We’ve established that beauty soaps, ointments and lotions have oils in them. They work off the principle that trapped dirt and bacteria should stick to these oils and slough off skin as you wash. The problem we’ve identified is that these oils tend to stick around, cause more blockage and starts a whole new cycle making things worse. What do we do about it?
Enter non-comedogenic oils and the comedogenic scale. Simply put, comedogenicity is the likelihood of how specific ingredients like oils and butters will clog pores. The scale goes from 0-5 and looks like this:
